Your business is growing and you’ve got plans to keep it that way. But you’re at a point where you can’t keep doing everything yourself, and you need help.
Does that describe you? It’s true for many business owners. And I’m not sure why, but design and marketing are two areas that business owners think they “should be able to tackle themselves.” This seems to be the one area of business growth that a lot of entrepreneurs are reluctant to let go.
Yes, everyone does their own design up to a point. But eventually you reach a stage where you have to ask yourself
- is this the best use of your time
- do you have the graphic software to create files properly?
- are you creative enough to get the project actually done?
- do you have the time and energy for this project?
And here’s the other side of the argument, and it’s everywhere online:
- ”our easy online course will help you become your own graphic designer”
- ”design your own logo in 3 easy steps” (yes, I’ve actually seen that)
- ”DIY your own design with our easy system”
And so on. I’m not a huge fan of “do it yourself” graphic design because there’s a lot of technical items that a regular person will not know how to deal with. Frustration will set it, and inevitably, a graphic designer will have to be consulted (and paid) to finish the project.
That’s why I believe that creating a foundation you can build from would be a better plan.
Here, you would have your basic brand image designed, and you would receive your logo, fonts, colours and basic branding guidelines, which you can use to build from. This would go a long way to helping you keep things consistent and organized.
Once your your designer has you set up with a good foundation then your DIY journey will be easier. One task that many business owners tackle is social media posts. Once you have your brand guidelines handy it’s easier to create your own templates in Canva for social media.
I hope I’ve given you some food for thought. Running a business is already a full-time job that’s challenging and stressful enough. Why add design to that mix?
If you’re ready to hand over the design to a professional I am happy to help. All you have to do is email me (loreto@loladesign.ca) to get the process started.
Wishing you a happy March,
