If you’re taking stock of what’s happened between January and June, spend some time thinking about the tasks that you don’t love. The stuff you put off until it’s critical. The tasks you might not be best at, and perhaps resent doing.
I’m willing to bet some of those fall in the “marketing” category. Let’s be honest: marketing your business is a LOT of work. And these days you have to have to know where your audience is and where to reach them. It’s no longer enough to just have a website.
That’s where email marketing and social media marketing come into the mix. For most of us, those two are now part of the routine. I know there’s many of you out there who simply don’t enjoy this part of the business. And some of you are not consistent. But it’s a very necessary activity. And if you’re spending this time resenting it and not giving it your all, it might be time to simply hand over the workload to a virtual assistant.
Over the past five years virtual assistants have become a big help to varied businesses. You can literally find a virtual assistant (VA) who does specifically what you need to delegate.
So take the time and figure out where a VA can help free your time. There are virtual assistants out there who really specialize in pretty much anything you need, including:
- website maintenance
- social media posting and monitoring
- office admin tasks
- back-end office management
- email monitoring
The key is to figure out what you need and the best person to do it. Then have a serious converstation with her/him to outline your needs clearly, to make sure your expectations are met.
Summertime is not just a time for heading outdoors and working on your tan. It’s also a great time to tweak your business, specially the marketing side. That way when fall comes, you’ll be prepared, you’ll be ready, and you’ll be looking forward to the work….and not the stuff you’d rather hire someone else to do.
As a business owner, the temptation to do everything yourself is very big. But remember that there’s only twenty-four hours in one day. And at one point you have to do the math: does it make sense to keep doing tasks you hate, or does it make more sense to pay someone else to free your time?
Wishing you a wonderful July,
